About Arctic Story House
We are Bjarki and Katrin, two independent creators living in Húsavík in North Iceland. Arctic Story House is a small project we are building from our home.
Like many parents, we had grown tired of children's entertainment that feels increasingly loud, fast and designed around constant stimulation. We wanted to make something different: heartfelt stories, slower visuals, characters children can get to know and relate to, and a world that leaves room for their imagination.
That idea became Arctic Story House — a fictional universe inspired by Iceland, its landscapes, folklore and storytelling traditions.
Two people, one growing universe
There is no large studio behind Arctic Story House. We write and adapt stories, develop the characters and Nornavefur world, direct the visual style, produce and edit our films and audio, and build the project ourselves from our home in our free time.
Our knitted world is created digitally. We use a range of creative and production tools, including generative AI, to create and animate its visual elements. The landscapes and characters you see on screen are not physical hand-knitted sets.
AI is part of our production process, but it isn't where the stories begin. The writing, characters, fictional world, creative decisions, selection, direction and finished productions are developed by us. Real people, creative heads, parents.
We believe being clear about that matters.
